A global tech outage caused by a faulty update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has disrupted air travel, banking, healthcare, and other services worldwide. The issue, which only affects Windows PCs, led to widespread blue screen crashes and grounded over 3,300 flights. Airports, including those in the UK, US, Australia, and others, faced major delays and cancellations. CrowdStrike has confirmed the problem wasn’t a cyberattack and has issued a fix, but recovery requires manual action on each affected device, causing major strain on IT teams. Microsoft is also assisting with mitigation efforts. While business systems were hit hard, personal devices remain largely unaffected. The outage may delay payroll processing and emergency services were also briefly impacted. CrowdStrike, normally a defender against cyber threats, ironically caused this disruption, affecting its nearly 24,000 corporate customers worldwide.
