Elon Musk’s X hit by waves of outages in what he claims is ‘a massive cyberattack’

Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced widespread outages on March 10, 2025, which Musk claimed stemmed from a “massive cyberattack” with IP addresses traced to Ukraine. The attack reportedly caused platform access issues for tens of thousands of users globally, with disruptions peaking around 10 a.m. ET and subsiding later in the day.

Musk suggested a coordinated group or country could be behind the attack but offered no confirmed details. Experts, including CyberSheath CEO Eric Noonan, cautioned against jumping to conclusions so soon after the incident, noting Musk’s history of attributing technical problems to cyberattacks.

The platform has faced instability since Musk’s 2022 acquisition, which included massive staff cuts and operational overhauls. On the same day as the outage, Tesla shares fell 15%, compounding a difficult day for Musk-led ventures.
