Swiss banks UBS and Pictet reported a data leak following a cyberattack on their external service provider, Chain IQ. While no client data was compromised, Swiss newspaper Le Temps said that personal information on tens of thousands of UBS employees, including a direct phone line to UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti, was stolen and leaked on the dark web.
UBS stated it acted swiftly to prevent operational impact. Chain IQ confirmed that it and 19 other companies were affected and that the stolen data was posted online on June 12. It declined to comment on any ransom or contact with the attackers.
Pictet clarified that the breach only involved invoice-related data with some suppliers, not client information, and emphasized that its data protection protocols remain active.
